No sign of a real pipe organ for revamped Geffen Hall either— A major, major disappointment, and a lost, once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for the @NYPhil. If LA's Disney Hall can have a pipe organ—why can't NYC? cc: @mcmansionhell @pipeorgancds @WQXR #PipeDreams #MichaelBarone https://twitter.com/TedGrunewald/status/1201981534233858048 …

That's *not* what they said when Lippold's "Apollo and Orpheus" sculpture was taken down. At the time, they said it was “removed temporarily for maintenance and conservation.” https://nytimes.com/2015/11/26/arts/design/orpheus-and-apollo-dismantled-may-be-gone-for-years-some-fear-permanently.html … They're morally obligated to put it back. cc: @ARSNewYork @ArtistsRights

It holds 2,738 people. So that’s $201k per seat. To call it obscenely excessive would be polite. Oh, and for a renovation, not a new build? Luckily there mustn’t be any poor in NYC.

But this country can't afford universal healthcare! (Arts are important too, but I just...$550m).

I remember the 1976 renovation to 'improve' the acoustics back then. I wasn't a frequent concertgoer, but I did hear a performance of Berlioz' Requiem there in the late 70s. It was spectacular.
