Huge congrats to @Columbia for launching the world's first university-wide scholarship for displaced students. 👏👏👏

This is big. The European Environment Agency has just staked out a clear #postgrowth position. "Pursuing growth at the expense of the environment is no longer an option. Marginal efficiency gains are not enough."

The number of global insurers who restricted insurance for coal last year doubled. Leaving Asian insurers & the Lloyd’s market the ‘lenders of last resort’ for a dying and destructive industry.

Another mind-opening piece by @sjmmcd. "Past labor & social justice movements essentially fought to spread the spoils of a new fossil fuel economy more fairly. What the decarbonization movement must do today is, in a sense, the opposite...deny the spoils."

*HOT OFF THE PRESS* My first journal article! The Threat of Rent Extraction in a Resource-constrained Future https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S0921800919304203 … I won't try to shoehorn the whole argument into a twitter thread, but to whet your appetite:

After climate change denial, here comes inequality revisionism - sponsored by @TheEconomist. Make no mistake, the strategy is the same: exaggerate the importance of certain methodological debates to discredit the best available data & policymakers using it

#ucustrike also about the 15% gender pay gap. At LSE, the hourly median pay gap is nearly 15% (2018). The mean gender pay gap is 24%. In this report we see how precarity plays a role, as well as how gendered hiring practices are: https://info.lse.ac.uk/staff/divisions/equity-diversity-and-inclusion/Assets/Documents/PDFs/LSE-Gender-Pay-Gap-Report-2018.pdf …

"We desperately need narratives that move past apocalypse as an endpoint, not only because there are people and societies already living in the Western world’s vision of climate apocalypse on a daily basis, from the future..."

"A decade after the crisis, the need to address enduring economic weaknesses remains. That means admitting that value is determined collectively, by business, workers, strategic public institutions, and civil-society organizations."@ProSyn @MazzucatoM

Reflecting on privileges should go beyond coming out/confessional narratives where people admit privileges but do nothing further to interrogate or dismantle the structures from which their privileges accrue.
